The energy of the Q-switch ND-Yag laser is directed into the ink of the tattoo, by breaking down the ink and stimulating skin renewal. These are then recognised by die body as waste. The colourant rises to the skin’s surface and is naturally exfoliated, or is carried away and absorbed by the body’s own healing processes, leaving the skin smooth and clear.
DURING and AFTER the treatment the following SIDE-EFFECTS are common: Erythema, point-bleeding, pain, bruising, oedema, scabbing, hives, heat sensitivity and irritation. BEFORE sessions, the client can take anti-inflammatory agents and Celestamine / antihistamine tablets or apply anti-inflammatory gel / antihistamine cream to reduce skin irritation and swelling. Local anaesthetic creams like EMLA / lidocaine / prilocaine may also be applied, about half an hour before the session, to ease the pain. Note that it must be covered afterwards so that it can be absorbed. For large areas, you can use GLAD Wrap. AFTERWARDS, just cleanse the area with an anti-septic lotion and treat with ALOE gel, any antibiotic ointment, or ZAMBUK or PREP cream. A topical anti-inflammatory gel like FASTUM soothes the pain and reduces swelling.
